I cannot understand what actually you want to know about cross tabulation. Do you want to know how to do cross tabulation in SPSS research? If yes, then I think I can provide you an answer.

Why do we do cross tabulation in SPSS research? The answer is we do cross tabulation to know the result of a group which depends on something. However, there is another reason to use cross tabulation. If we want to know the findings of two groups where there are some categories, then we use cross tabulation.

To do cross tabulation in SPSS research, first open a data set. Suppose you have a variable called gender and another one is result. There are two codes for gender- Boys = 1 and Girls = 2. On the other hand, in result variable there are four answers- First class = 1, Second class = 2, Third class = 3 and Fail = 4. Then you can do a cross tabulation. Just follow the below process.

    1. From the menu, click on Analyze
    2. Then click on Descriptive Statistics and then to Crosstabs…
    3. A dialogue box will be opened.
    4. Put the gender variable in column
    5. Put the other variable result in Row
    6. Click on Statistics and chose your options. If you want to know the differences are statistically significant, you can select chi square. You can also select nominal and ordinal options what are matched with your data set.
    7. Click on Continue
    8. Then click on Cells and if you want to the result by row then select row from the percentages
    9. Click on Continue.
    10. If you want to ascending or descending, then press on Format and then select your choice
    11. Click on ok, and you will get the result.

Hope this can help your SPSS research.
